Using WhatsApp as a growth channel in the GCC, without spamming

WhatsApp is where GCC customers already talk. How to use it across acquisition, conversion and retention while keeping trust.

In Saudi Arabia and across the GCC, WhatsApp is often the first place customers go to ask a question, place an order or complain. Treating it as a side channel leaves growth on the table.

Across the funnel

For acquisition, click-to-WhatsApp ads start a real conversation instead of a cold form. For conversion, fast answers to pre-purchase questions remove the doubts that stop people from buying. For retention, reminders, order updates and personal offers bring customers back for repeat orders.

WhatsApp can also be a bridge: businesses that start by taking orders in chat can move those customers into an app or website with a clear reason to switch.

Keep trust first

Only message people who opted in, make it easy to stop, and keep messages useful and personal. Broadcasting the same promotion to everyone erodes trust quickly and can get a number restricted.

Segment by behaviour: a reminder to someone who abandoned a cart is welcome; a generic discount to someone who bought yesterday is noise.

Measure it properly

Track WhatsApp like any other channel: conversations started, conversion to order, revenue attributed and opt-out rate. Without that, it is impossible to know whether it is growing the business or just keeping the team busy.
